My name is Laura Niederer, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor, and registered play therapist (RPT) who works with children, adolescents, and adults through a private practice in Winfield, Missouri.

Prior to working as a LPC,  I worked for 12 years in a domestic violence shelter with women who have been in or currently in an abusive intimate relationship.  During this time I was able to provide women and their children with support through education about the cycle of violence, healthy boundaries, and emotional support through empowerment with self esteem issues, anxiety, and grief.  This experience led to my desire to become a counselor.

My approach in therapy is to provide support and feedback to my adult clients, using my unique perspective to help them see their life, challenges, and problems in a different way.   As a registered play therapist I use specific language and play techniques which facilitate children’s ability to: build frustration tolerance, increase attention span, develop impulse control, learn, communicate, process, grow, express, create, problem solve, develop confidence, and meet their ultimate potential.  Together with parents, my goal is to provide training on how to effectively use positive discipline and both manage and understand difficult behaviors.

I received my master’s degree in counseling from Missouri Baptist University and consistently attain continuing education to further my professional growth.  I completed my certificate in Play Therapy from the KC Play Institute and became a Registered Play Therapist in 2014. I am currently a member of several counseling associations, including the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), American Counseling Association (ACA) and Association for Play Therapy (APT).

Will I be able to help you? Will we work well together? Will you feel comfortable with me? These are questions we should both take seriously, because finding the right counselor is important and will make a big difference in your comfort level and success. The best way to find out is to begin by contacting me today!

I look forward to meeting and working with you,
